Instructions for crochet turtle

Abbreviations:
lp = loop
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
ch = chain stitch
sl st = slip stitch
r = row
[*…*] repeat the rest of the loop

Head:
Loop 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
Loop 2: * 2 sc in each st* (12)
Loop 3: * 1 sc, 2 sc in one st* (18)
Loop 4: * 2 sc, 2 sc in one st* (24)
Loop 5: * 3 sc, 2 sc in one st* (30)
Loop 6: 2 sc, 2 sc in one st, *4 sc, 2 sc in one st* x 5, 2 sc (36)
Loop 7: *5 sc, 2 sc in one st* (42)
Loop 8: 3 sc, 2 sc in one st, *6 sc, 2 sc in one st* x 5, 3 sc (48)
Loops 9-14: *1 sc in each st*
Loop 15: 3 sc, *2 sc together, 6 sc* x 5, 2 sc together, 3 sc (42)
Loop 16: *2 sc together, 5 sc* (36)
Loop 17: 2 sc, *2 sc together, 4 sc* x 5, 2 sc together, 2 sc (30)
Loop 18: *2 sc together, 3 sc* (24)
Loop 19: *2 sc together, 10 sc* (22)
Break yarn and make a string long enough for joining
Fill the head

Eyes:
Make 2 eyes
Loop 1: 8 sc in magic ring (8)
Loop 2: !colour change! Change the colour at the first stitch, and from there work 2 sc in the same stitch, 2 sc in each stitch rounded out and in the first stitch from the colour change (18)
Loop 3: 1 ss in the first stitch, complete and break the yarn – make a string long enough for embroidering and joining.

Legs:
Front legs – make two
Loop 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
Loop 2: * 2 sc in each st* (12)
Loop 3: * 1 sc, 2 sc in one st* (18)
Loop 4: * 2 sc, 2 sc in one st* (24)
Loop 5: * 3 sc, 2 sc in one st* (30)
Loop 6: 2 sc, 2 sc in one st, *4 sc, 2 sc in one st* x 5, 2 sc (36)
Loop 7: *5 sc, 2 sc in one st* (42)
Loop 8: 3 sc, 2 sc in one st, *6 sc, 2 sc in one st* x 5, 3 sc (48)
Loop 9: *7 sc, 2 sc in one st* (54)
Fold the circle to make a half-circle. Crochet the two sides together with slip stitches (27)
Complete and break the yarn –make a string long enough for joining
Lead the end through one of the legs

Back legs – make two
Loop 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
Loop 2: * 2 sc in each stitch* (12)
Loop 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in one stitch* (18)
Loop 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in one stitch* (24)
Loop 5: *3 sc, 2 sc in one stitch* (30)
Loop 6: 2 sc, 2 sc in one st, *4 sc, 2 sc in one stitch* x 5, 2 sc (36)
Loop 7: *5 sc, 2 sc in one stitch* (42)
Fold the circle to make a half-circle. Crochet the two sides together with slip stitches (21)
Complete and break the yarn –make a string long enough for joining
Lead the end through one of the legs

Tail:
Pull up two stitches – one can also be made in a magic ring
Loop 1: Make 3 sc in the 2nd loop from the needle (3)

Loops 4-7: *1 sc in each st*
Make a string long enough for joining

Shell:
Loop 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
Loop 2: * 2 sc in each st* (12)
Loop 3: 2 sc in each st* (24)
Loop 4: * 1 sc, 2 sc in one st* (36)
Loops 5-6: *1 sc in each st*
Loop 7: * 2 sc, 2 sc in one st* (48)
Loops 8-10: *1 sc in each st*
Loop 11: * 3 sc, 2 sc in one st* (60)
Loops 12-13: *1 sc in each st*
Loop 14: *4 sc, 2 sc in one st* (72)
Loops 15-16: *1 sc in each st*
Loop 17: * 5 sc, 2 sc in one st* (84)
Loop 18: *1 sc in each st*
Loop 19: !Only work in the front loop! 77 sc, 1 ss in next st – complete, break the yarn and sew the end in.
Do not crochet the final 7 stitches as that is where the head will be joined.

Stomach:
!In the first loop only work in the back loop in all 84 stitches from loop 18 in the shell – in other words, work down in the 7 stitches that are not worked on in round 18!
Go down in the first stitch in round 18 – the stomach starts here
Loop 1: 4 sc, 7 ch, skip ahead 7 sc, 17 sc, 5 sc, skip ahead 5 sc, 4 sc, 3 ch, skip ahead 3 sc, 4 sc, 5 ch, skip ahead 5 sc, 17 sc, 7 ch, skip ahead 7 sc, 11 sc (84)
Loop 2: *1 sc in each st*
Loop 3: 5 sc, *2 sc together, 10 sc* x 6, 2 sc together, 5 sc (77)
Loop 4: *2 sc together, 9 sc* (70)
Loop 5: *2 sc together, 5 sc* (60)
Loop 6: 4 sc, *2 sc together, 8 sc* x 5, 2 sc together, 4 sc (54)
Attach the legs and tail in the holes you made in round 1 – the tail must be in the hole with 3 ch, the rear legs in the holes with 5 ch, and the front legs in the holes with 7 ch
Loop 7: *2 sc together, 7 sc* (48)
Loop 8: 3 sc, *2 together, 6 sc* x 5, 2 sc together, 3 sc (42)
Loop 9: *2 sc together, 5 sc* (36)
Loop 10: 2 sc, *2 together, 4 sc* x 5, 2 sc together, 2 sc (30)
Loop 11: *2 sc together, 3 sc* (24)
Loop 12: 1 sc, *2 together, 2 sc* x 5, 2 sc together, 1 sc (18)
Loop 13: *2 sc together, 1 sc* (12)
Loop 14: *2 sc together* (6)
Sew the head in place in the space we made in the shell.
Complete and break the yarn – sew in the end.
