Anna loves crocheting, and small projects are done in a twinkling.

Many evening hours are often spent making dainty crochet creations from yarn, and these days she is busy crocheting Christmas ornaments. Anna has decided to share three sweet and free crochet patterns with you. Now, it is up to you to decide whether the projects are to turn into beautiful hostess gifts, crocheted decorations for the Christmas table or handsome crochet ornaments or your own Christmas tree.

Read the patterns below and choose your next crochet project. Do you plan to crochet the star, the Christmas tree or the drum?

Crocheted christmas star for hanging

From the list of materials:

This pattern is an intermediate-level project.
Jute yarn (no. 8) plus a crochet hook in size 5 mm.

Abbreviations:

ch: Chain stitch
htr: Half treble stitch
ss: Slip stitch
dc: Double crochet stitch
dtr: Double treble stitch

Method:

Row 1: Start with 5 chain stitches (ch), close as a circle with a slip stitch (ss).
Row 2: This row is to be crocheted within the circle (the first row). 1 ch, 1 half treble stitch (htr), 1 ch, 1 double treble stitch (dtr), 1 ch. Repeat this 5 times until you have 5 points. Close the row with an ss in the ss from the last row.
Row 3: Crochet 3 double crochet stitches (dc), 1 ch,1 dtr, I ch, 1 dc in the same stitch as the dtr. Repeat this throughout the row. Close with an ss. Using a needle or crochet hook, weave in the ends on the back.
Finishing:
Wet and stretch/press the Christmas star, and let it dry on a flat surface. Find a suitable piece of yarn or string to attach for hanging the ornament.

Crocheted christmas tree in two sizes and versions

Crocheted christmas tree in two sizes and versions

From the list of materials:

This pattern is an intermediate-level project.
Cotton yarn (no. 7) · Filling (no. 18) · Wooden slices (no. 22)
Branches (no. 25) · Hot glue gun (no. 69) · Hot glue sticks (no. 70)
plus a crochet hook in size 2 mm and needles or safety pins.

Abbreviations:

ch: Chain stitch
htr: Half treble stitch
ss: Slip stitch

Method:

First, you need to decide whether to make a
big or a small tree.
Big tree:
Row 1: Start with 20 chain stitches (ch), finish with 1 extra ch.
Row 2: Crochet 20 half treble stitches (htr), finish with 1 ch.
Row 3: Crochet 20 htr, finish with 1 ch.
Row 4: Skip the first stitch, 18 htr, finish with 1 ch.
Row 5: Crochet 18 htr, finish with 1 ch.
Row 6: Skip first stitch, 16 htr, finish with 1 ch.
Row 7: Now crochet 16 htr, finish with 1 ch.
Row 8 – 23: Continue to decrease every other row until you
are left with 2 stitches. Weave in the ends.
Start over again with the same process, so you end up with
two identical pieces which you can stitch together.
Small tree:
Row 1: Start with 14 chain stitches (ch), finish with 1 extra ch.
Row 2: Crochet 14 half treble stitches (htr), finish with 1 ch.
Row 3: Crochet 14 htr, finish with 1 ch.
Row 4: Skip the first stitch, 12 htr, finish with 1 ch.
Row 5: Crochet 12 htr, finish with 1 ch.
Row 6: Skip first stitch, 10 htr, finish with 1 ch.
Row 7: Now, crochet 10 htr, finish with 1 ch.
Row 8-15: Continue to decrease every other row until you are
left with 2 stitches. Weave in the ends.
Start over again with the same process, so you end up with
two identical pieces which you can stitch together.
Before assembling your tree, you need to decide whether you
want to crochet a tree trunk or attach a real piece of wood.

Crocheted tree trunk:
You have now crocheted two identical triangles for the tree
top. Now, assemble the tree by laying the pieces on top of
one another and attaching the pieces by crocheting them
together with htr stitches. Start in the right corner and crochet
along the long side up to the top of the tree and continue
along the other side. Stop at the corner, and stuff the tree
with an appropriate amount of filling.
Close the tree by continuing with htr stitches. Finish with one
slip stitch (ss), and weave in the thread.
To make the trunk of the tree, you need to measure and mark
out the middle of the bottom of the tree.
Crochet 4 htr stitches in two rows, and weave in the ends.
Attach a string of your choice for hanging.
A wooden tree trunk:
You have now crocheted two identical triangles for the tree
top. Lay these two pieces on top of one another and make
two markings (use pins or safety pins) where you want to
leave a hole for the tiny branch that is to be the tree trunk.
Attach the triangles by crocheting them together with htr
stitches. Start at the first marking and crochet along the long
side up to the top of the tree. Continue along the other side
until you reach your other marking. Finish with 1 ss, cut and
weave in the ends. Stuff with an appropriate amount of filling
through the hole you left for the trunk.
Push in the tree trunk. You can attach a string for hanging or
glue the tree trunk to a round wooden slice to make a stand.

Crocheted drum ornament

From the list of materials:

This pattern is an intermediate-level project.
Cotton yarn (no. 7) · Filling (no. 18) · Decor yarn (no. 9)
plus a crochet hook in size 2 mm and needles or safety pins.

Abbreviations:

ch: Chain stitch
htr: Half treble stitch
ss: Slip stitch
dc: Double crochet stitch

Method:

Top and bottom of the drum:
Start with 4 chain stitches (ch), close as a circle
with 1 slip stitch (ss).
Row 1: Use half treble stitch (htr), increase in each stitch
to 8 stitches.
Row 2: Increase in each stitch to 16 htr.
Row 3: Increase in each stitch to 32 htr.
Row 4: Increase in every third stitch until you have 40 htr
stitches. Finish the row with 1 double crochet stitch (dc)
and 1 ss.
Start over again with the same process,
so you end up with two identical circles.
Cylindrical body of drum:
Start with 40 (ch), close as a circle with 1 slip stitch (ss).
Row 1 and 2 (red yarn): Use htr stitches.
Row 3 -7 (light blue): Change yarn to light blue and use
htr stitches.
Row 8 and 9: Change to red yard and use htr stitches.
Finish the last row with 1 dc and 1 ss.

Use decoration yarn to make the straps on the sides
of the drum. Start by marking where to sew. Make four
markings along the top red stripe (use pins or safety pins)
spaced approximately 3 cm apart.
Now, make four markings along the bottom red stripe,
but placing them in-between the markings in the top
stripe. Finally, make a zigzag pattern by sewing from one
marking across to the next along the length of the drum.
Weave in the ends.
Use decoration yarn to attach the body of the drum to
the top and bottom, you want to use the decor yarn.
Place the first circle against one end of the cylinder and
fasten these two pieces by crocheting dc stitches all the
way around. Weave in the ends. Place the second circle
against the other end of the cylinder. Crochet dc stitches,
stopping halfway around, so you can stuff the drum with
filling. Complete the round and weave in the threads.
Using decor yarn, make a loop for hanging.

The sisters hope you will enjoy crocheting the little ornaments.
Kindest regards,
Søstrene Grene

Use the new Søstrene Grene chair in different ways in your home. Place, for example, several of the chairs by the dinner table or mix one chair with other dining room chairs and be creative in the way you combine shapes and materials. The chair can also adorn other parts of your home. For instance, it can create “hygge” in a bedroom, in the office or as a lounge chair in the living room. You can also give the chair a personal touch by adding a unique detail or a special twist by painting the chair in a wonderful colour or decorating the chair with a fine cushion or a soft skin rug.
