Knitting pattern by Søstrene Grene

Knitting is a sweet activity which can result in something highly useful, if you ask Anna.

Have a look at the video in which Anna knits useful dishcloths for the kitchen.

DIY knitting pattern by Søstrene Grene

Anna’s dishcloth in one-colour brioche stitch

When the day draws to a close, Anna likes to make herself comfortable in her favourite armchair with a hot cup of tea and her knitting. At the moment she is occupied with knitting a lovely dishcloth, which brings a personal touch to this practical, everyday item.

Anna recommends that you knit dishcloths in your favourite colours, and if you wish, you can knit dishcloths in seven different colours – one for every day of the week.

Materials:
Anna and Clara’s organic cotton yarn (approx. 25 g per dishcloth, depending on gauge).
Circular or double-pointed knitting needles no. 3.5 mm

Abbreviations:
k: knit
p: purl
st: stitches

How to knit a one-colour dishcloth:
The dishcloth’s measurements: 25 cm x 25 cm
Gauge: 26 st x 22 st = 10 x 10 cm

Cast on 52 stitches around either the circular or double-pointed knitting needle no. 3.5 mm
Knit 5 rows
Row 6: (right side) 3 k * 1 p slip stitch with yarn over, 2 knit together, 1 p slip a stitch * Continue from * to * until there is 3 m left on the needle, 3 k.
Row 7: (wrong side): 3 k, 1 p slip stitch with yarn over, 2 purl knit together, 1 p slip a stitch with yarn over, continue from * to * until there are 3 stitches left on the needle, 3 k.
To finish: Finish with 5 rows garter stitch. Cast off.

If you would like to knit a small hand towel, simply increase the number of stitches to how many you want, or e.g. to 80 m. Always cast on an even number of stitches. You could also knit a wider border around it, e.g. 9 rows at the bottom and top and 5 k on either side of the towel. Make a strap for hanging the towel by casting off over 6 stitches on 3. The last knit row (on the border at the top) and on the second to last row, bring the yarn over 6 stitches again by bringing the yarn over the centre row. Knit 1 k row more and cast off.

Anna wishes you the best of luck with your knitting

how to book binding by søstrene grene
How to bind books

Make covers for your school books

Many years have passed since Anna and Clara went to school, but the sisters still have not forgotten their school days and the importance of protecting one’s school books. A textbook must last several years, and you can make an additional effort to maintain your books by wrapping them in book covering paper.

Covering school books
Book covering paper is not only practical; if you ask Anna, it provides a unique opportunity to personalise your textbooks. Choose book covering paper and stickers with name and subject based on your personal style to make the school days even more fun.

How to make textbook covers?

Making paperback covers for your textbooks may seem difficult, and that is why Anna has made a video about this technique. In this video, you can learn how to make a lasting cover for your school books from Søstrene Grene’s book covering paper, which was manufactured with this purpose in mind.
All you need to make a cover for your textbooks:
Book covering paper
Scissors

Decorate your homemade textbook covers

Should you prefer to embellish your homemade cover, Anna would like to suggest how you can decorate the paper with acrylic paint. Remember to only paint on the book covering paper and not the actual textbook.
Materials you will need to decorate the cover:
Acrylic paint (in your favourite colours)
Paint brush
Eraser

Anna and Clara wish you a wonderful school year.
